How Much Did You Pay For Your Plane Ticket?
Because of the emphasis on price competition, consumers may choose from a wide variety of air fares. Some airlines are trying a "back to basics" approach-offering flights at bargain basement prices with few extras. For fare information, you can contact a travel agent, another ticket outlet or an airline serving the places you want to visit. Ask them to tell you the names of all airlines flying there.
A travel agent can find virtually all airlines' fares in his or her computer. Or, if you prefer you can call each airline to ask about the fares they charge, particularly any special promotional fares they may be offering at the time. You can also pay attention to newspaper and radio ads, where airlines advertise many of the discount plans that apply to your city.
Finally, be alert to new companies serving the market. They may offer lower fares or different services than older established airlines. Here are some tips to help you decide among air fares:
Be flexible in your travel plans in order to get the lowest fare. The best deals may be limited to travel on certain days of the week or particular hours of the day. Tips On Alaska Floatplane Flying
A life of adventure - doing what you love and getting paid for it – does this sound interesting to you? Maybe if you're thinking about a career change you should think about heading to Alaska to be a float plane pilot or a bush pilot.
At the very least it's an excellent summer vacation idea if you can't manage the career change right now. These pilots live lives that most of us will only dream of. Think of it this way if you have to justify the change to your significant other: when it's really hot and humid where you live during the summer you are pretty much guaranteed relief from the heat in the form of lower temperatures if you're in Alaska! That should definitely get you to at least the "I'll think about it" stage with them (if you're lucky).
Fast forward to what your life would be like in the winter. Imagine the adrenaline rush of flying over a glacier and then landing on an icy lake with skis on your plane. No brakes here…all you've got is your wits and some luck!
Are you looking for some more "subtle" adventure? You could fly charter flights the rest of the year into the wilderness and drop people off for a day of fishing, hiking, nature-watching or the like and then head back at the end of the day to pick them up and take them back to civilization. Talk about the ideal job for a pilot!
There are thousands of lakes in Alaska that you can land on, or if you prefer you can put your tundra tires to work and find a flat spot to land in the wilderness. Bust out "The Claw" and leave your plane to go do some exploring of your own! The cool thing about this particular tiedown is that it's not only super-portable but the more your plane pulls on it the deeper it pulls into the ground, keeping it safe from those renegade tornadoes that keep threatening to swoop your little investment away!
There is some sort of fancy mathematical equation for how "The Claw" works, and if you want to work it out you can go right ahead. For the rest of us, trust me, this contraption is very cool. It's easy to take with you because it breaks down and even has its own storage bag.
However, there are always two sides to every story…living in Alaska means that you probably aren't going to see most of your family as often as you'd like (or if it's the in-laws that might not be such a bad thing, right?) and every day in your plane isn't necessarily going to be idyllic.
If you have a job flying you are going to have to be out in all sorts of weather; much of it as far from ideal conditions as you can imagine. You'll have to have a lot of training and experience as well as the guts to keep going when you know that you really shouldn't. Not to mention that when you turn a hobby into a job you run the risk of losing the excitement and reward that you get out of it.
If you still are interested at this point and I haven't dissuaded you then probably you are going to make a go of it "by hook or by crook." Good for you!

International Yachtmaster Training Sailing Courses
Module 1 is the Introduction to Yachting Certificate
The International Recreational Crew Certificate is divided into 6 modules, module 2 gets us under way and you will be learn about safety on board a boat and the use of the life raft and first aid kit, fire extinguishers, flares, life jackets and safety harnesses. What clothing and footwear is suitable for the varying conditions met while sailing. Seasickness and it's symptoms, cause and prevention. How various equipment works including: battery selector switch, bilge pumps, cabin lights, cooker & butane/propane gas, heads and water pumps together with general housekeeping rules. You will learn a very basic theory of how a diesel engine works and maintenance procedures such as checking the level of the oil, changing the oil, changing filters, ensuring the flow of cooling water to the engine and how to change impellors. You will be taught how to keep a good and effective lookout, which should be maintained at all times, while under way. You will take a look at basic navigation, course plotting, nautical charts, safe passage conditions, tides and currents and weather forecasts.
On the practical side, module 3, you will learn how to coil a line and secure it to a cleat, tie a number of knots and use the winches. You will learn how to secure the boat for sea and then how to leave a berth, once under way you will undertake the duties of a lookout, learn how to hoist and set the sails and while helming the boat go through tack and gybe routines. You will anchor the boat and go through man overboard recovery drill.
Module 4 is theoretical and you will look at the International Regulations for Collision Avoidance or the "rules of the road". Specifically looking at lights, shapes, and sound signals. You will look at some more sail handling techniques, there is more work with charts and compass and to conclude you will take a look at marine customs, etiquette and manners.
The next practical module includes safety checks and look at the through hull fittings, engine warning lights and alarms and the emergency fuel cut off. You will learn deck seamanship with more docking and mooring routines. More sail work, bending on, hoisting, lowering, reefing mainsails, handling sheets, lines, halyards, outhauls and sail trim. You will learn more skills at the helm, tacking, gybing, sailing a triangular course, sailing a compass course and heaving to.
Module 6 looks at both theory and practise of Dinghy/Tender handling. You will learn the different types of tenders, engines, spares and maintenance and safety equipment. On the practical side you will learn to row, how to move under power, launch and recover and transfer to and from the dinghy to the boat or dock.
This section concludes with an assessment of theoretical knowledge and practical skills gained. At the of this course you will be a useful crew member on any small yacht.
The Radio Operator/Communications Certificate is a stand alone module. You will learn how to operate a radio including emergency calls, calling ship to ship, ship to shore, the types of marine radios available and the regulations governing it's use. An examination concludes the course.
The next 5 modules are the International Watchkeeper/Flotilla Skipper Certificate
Number 8 is theoretical and looks at the responsibilities of a watchkeeper, charts and chartwork, the compass, magnetism and concludes with a look at buoys and marks.
The next practical module concentrates on safety including a briefing that should be given to crew members when they join the vessel and looks at the galley area which if not used correctly can be a danger to all those on board. The rest of the section is devoted to boat handling and develops on the skills learnt in the International Recreational Crew Certificate course.
Back to theory in the next module with a look at basic first aid. More work is done with the International Regulations for Collision Avoidance. Finally you will take a further look at marine customs, manners and today's ever increasing legal requirements.
In module 11, the next practical stage you will prepare a passage plan, and while undertaking a short passage work still further on boat handling skills.
This section concludes with an assessment of theoretical knowledge and practical skills gained.
You have now reached a level that entitles you to the International Certificate of Competence or ICC. It is suggested that the skippers of vessels are required to hold this by some European countries. I have never been asked for mine by the authorities and I know of no one who has. It is also suggested that some companies require it prior to allowing charter of a boat. Again I have not come across this in practise.
The next three modules make up the International Bareboat Skipper Certificate and the first looks at taking over a vessel and the necessary checks on hull and rig, machinery and systems, instruments, safety equipment, spares, tools, fuel, water and provisions. It looks at tides and currents and what causes them. You will learn how to use tide tables and gain an understanding primary and secondary ports. There is some more chartwork that includes position fixing and plotting a course to steer to counteract a current. The section concludes with a look at the responsibilities of the Skipper, their communication with and delegation to the crew.
On the practical side you will develop sailing skills with more general deck work, ropes, knots, splices, the care and use of lines. There is more vessel handling work including anchoring, berthing, mooring, handling in confined areas and handling with currents.
This section concludes with module 16 and includes a look at the weather and sources of weather information, personal observations, weather patterns, land and sea breezes, the different cloud formations, rain and fog. You will learn pilotage. There is an in depth look at passage planning including pilot books, almanacs, considerations for passage planning, coastal passages, passage strategy, port regulations, pilotage plans. Finally you will take a further look at the International Regulations for Collision Avoidance.

On the practical side, module 3, you will learn how to coil a line and secure it to a cleat, tie a number of knots and use the winches. You will learn how to secure the boat for sea and then how to leave a berth, once under way you will undertake the duties of a lookout, learn how to hoist and set the sails and while helming the boat go through tack and gybe routines. You will anchor the boat and go through man overboard recovery drill.
Module 4 is theoretical and you will look at the International Regulations for Collision Avoidance or the "rules of the road". Specifically looking at lights, shapes, and sound signals. You will look at some more sail handling techniques, there is more work with charts and compass and to conclude you will take a look at marine customs, etiquette and manners.
The next practical module includes safety checks and look at the through hull fittings, engine warning lights and alarms and the emergency fuel cut off. You will learn deck seamanship with more docking and mooring routines. More sail work, bending on, hoisting, lowering, reefing mainsails, handling sheets, lines, halyards, outhauls and sail trim. You will learn more skills at the helm, tacking, gybing, sailing a triangular course, sailing a compass course and heaving to.
Module 6 looks at both theory and practise of Dinghy/Tender handling. You will learn the different types of tenders, engines, spares and maintenance and safety equipment. On the practical side you will learn to row, how to move under power, launch and recover and transfer to and from the dinghy to the boat or dock.
This section concludes with an assessment of theoretical knowledge and practical skills gained. At the of this course you will be a useful crew member on any small yacht.
The Radio Operator/Communications Certificate is a stand alone module. You will learn how to operate a radio including emergency calls, calling ship to ship, ship to shore, the types of marine radios available and the regulations governing it's use. An examination concludes the course.
The next 5 modules are the International Watchkeeper/Flotilla Skipper Certificate
Number 8 is theoretical and looks at the responsibilities of a watchkeeper, charts and chartwork, the compass, magnetism and concludes with a look at buoys and marks.
The next practical module concentrates on safety including a briefing that should be given to crew members when they join the vessel and looks at the galley area which if not used correctly can be a danger to all those on board. The rest of the section is devoted to boat handling and develops on the skills learnt in the International Recreational Crew Certificate course.
Back to theory in the next module with a look at basic first aid. More work is done with the International Regulations for Collision Avoidance. Finally you will take a further look at marine customs, manners and today's ever increasing legal requirements.
In module 11, the next practical stage you will prepare a passage plan, and while undertaking a short passage work still further on boat handling skills.
This section concludes with an assessment of theoretical knowledge and practical skills gained.
You have now reached a level that entitles you to the International Certificate of Competence or ICC. It is suggested that the skippers of vessels are required to hold this by some European countries. I have never been asked for mine by the authorities and I know of no one who has. It is also suggested that some companies require it prior to allowing charter of a boat. Again I have not come across this in practise.
The next three modules make up the International Bareboat Skipper Certificate and the first looks at taking over a vessel and the necessary checks on hull and rig, machinery and systems, instruments, safety equipment, spares, tools, fuel, water and provisions. It looks at tides and currents and what causes them. You will learn how to use tide tables and gain an understanding primary and secondary ports. There is some more chartwork that includes position fixing and plotting a course to steer to counteract a current. The section concludes with a look at the responsibilities of the Skipper, their communication with and delegation to the crew.
On the practical side you will develop sailing skills with more general deck work, ropes, knots, splices, the care and use of lines. There is more vessel handling work including anchoring, berthing, mooring, handling in confined areas and handling with currents.
This section concludes with module 16 and includes a look at the weather and sources of weather information, personal observations, weather patterns, land and sea breezes, the different cloud formations, rain and fog. You will learn pilotage. There is an in depth look at passage planning including pilot books, almanacs, considerations for passage planning, coastal passages, passage strategy, port regulations, pilotage plans. Finally you will take a further look at the International Regulations for Collision Avoidance.

Hidden Gems In The Costa Del Sol
Malaga, Spain is a wealth of historical and cultural knowledge for tourists. As the capital of Costa del Sol, or the "Sun Coast", Malaga lies on the southern coast of Spain and has a lot to offer the casual traveler and history buff alike. Not only will it take you back in time when you visit some of the most important structures in Spanish history, it also brings you into the present day, with its wide variety of shops and markets. Most of the attractions are within walking distance, once you're in the city center, so it's easy to take in all the city has to offer.
Historical Tours
Just a short walk from the historic city center, you'll find the fortress El Alcazaba. The entrance to this landmark, which dates back to the 11th century, is known as the Puerta del Cristo, or "Christ's Door". The first mass after the Christians' victory was celebrated here. The lush grounds consist of carefully manicured gardens and stately fountains. Many terraces on the property provide fabulous views of the town. The Archaeological Museum can be found on the grounds. Just outside the gates of this structure, you'll find the ruins of an amphitheater that dates back to Roman times.
Another point of interest not to be missed is the birthplace of Pablo Picasso, the country's most famous artist. It can be found in the historic city center in the Plaza de la Merced. In 1998, the Picasso Foundation took over the historic building, and it was officially re-opened by the King and Queen of Spain, after being closed for over 100 years. It serves as a tribute to Picasso's life and is a testament to his talent.
Aside from these two attractions, the city is overflowing with other historical points of interest, including a variety of museums and churches that date back centuries.

A Sivory Punta Cana Dominican Republic Review
The Sivory Punta Cana Reviews almost caused us to cancel our vacation We chose The Sivory Punta Cana Dominica Republic, despite the bad reviews because there were also some good reviews, and in the end we think it justified its boast that it was one of the best small luxury resorts in the Caribbean, one of the real Caribbean Hideaways.
The road to the Sivory Punta Cana is pretty bumpy and the taxi fare isn't cheap, somewhere between $60-$80 depending on whether you use a taxi or a van, although having said that it was really only the last few miles
We stayed in a deluxe junior suite with a plunge pool, which extremely well laid out and furnished. It had all the usual smellies in what was an awesome bathroom. It had a giant tub, a two person shower, which I had always wanted to try!!
The hotel grounds were beautifully landscaped and maintained, and there was a superb spa and gym. We liked the pool, and the pool area, but feel it necessary to point out one or two things that stops the Sivory Punta Cana from being one of the best small luxury resorts in the Caribbean.
Firstly the food isn't that fantastic, although there are items that aren't on the menu that they will make, but only if you ask. The menu is limited, and the items like lobster are in fact extremely good, but very pricey.
This may be a good reason for taking the all inclusive option, because not only can you have the better items, your drinks are of course also included. Add to this the fact that room service is free on all inclusive.
It is important to understand that if you are paying for individual items, there is a 26% tax to add to the price. On a $12 pina colada, this makes it $16!!
Whilst the minibar is free, and it contains beer coke and water, they won't replenish it unless you ask, and you are wasting your time asking the housekeeping staff..
Check your final bill carefully, because we had items added we didn't have. For instance our transport didn't appear when we went home, and we had to pay a taxi, b ut it was already an item on my bill!!
Finally if you like lots of action then The Sivory Punta Cana isn't the place for you. There is nothing to do here, it's miles from anywhere, and it has no nightclub, so just relax and unwind.
We thankfully ignored the The Sivory Punta Cana reviews, we had a great time, the staff were wonderful, it is a great Caribbean hideaway, and with a bit of care it could be one of the leading small luxury resorts in the Caribbean.

If you live in New York City or have been there, you've seen the elegant limos, the luxury car service that is used by the fortunate few. Bad Airline Food - Now This?
Airline food has long been the scourge of the industry. Literally! With customer expectations low, few expect that the meal they are served onboard an airliner will rise to the level of even a family style restaurant.
On the other hand, corporate jet catering is a whole different animal. With delectable entrees, delightful soups, outstanding appetizers and snacks, and the most decadent desserts imaginable, the passenger on a private jet expects [and pays for!] food akin to a five star performance.
Not anymore.
Today, in-flight caterers providing exemplary service and dining options is almost a thing of the past. Thanks to the rise of fractional jet operators who demand a narrow menu and smaller portion sizes, the quality levels with many in-flight caterers has nosedived. In addition, Air Chef, the largest provider of in-flight catering to business jets in the world, continues to snap up poorly performing caterers across the US. Now, corporate flight attendants must call a 1-800 number to place their order with an inexperienced and unknowledgeable clerk. Forget customer service and forget special orders...these do upset Air Chef!
With the bad name associated with the company, Air Chef is apparently seeking to distance itself from even its name. Air Culinaire, a caterer with operations in four different cities is now part of the Air Chef network. Now for the rub: word has it that Air Chef, in a bid to sharpen its image and to stave off the growing ranks of ticked off corporate flight attendants -- their bread 'n butter -- the caterer will be changing its name to Air Culinaire.
Corporate flight attendants aren't amused by Air Chef as evidenced by their comments on the Corporate Jet Catering site as well as on Cabin Managers, a forum that is also tied in with the Corporate Flight Attendant Community.
By the way, Rita's Catering of Boston is another Air Chef caterer...business flight attendants know this and are fleeing to the competition as fast as they can.

Nub's Nob Ski Vacations
If you will be in Michigan, you should definitely visit Nub's Nob Ski Resort. Nub's Nob has what is considered to be the Midwest's best snow, and the resort has a reputation for being a family friendly mountain. Generations of families have brought their children here for their very first ski run.
The mountain layout is fairly simple with an elevation of 1338 feet and a vertical drop of 427 feet. There are 43 trails serviced by eight chair lifts. Boasting one of the best skiing and snowboarding schools in the country, both private and group lessons are available. If you are brand new to the sport, you can even learn to ski free, and take advantage of Nub's Cubs Childcare Center while you learn.
Don't make the mistake of thinking that intermediate or expert skiers won't find any challenges waiting for them at Nub's Nob! The terrain is varied, and you will find challenges. Night Skiing is also available. The Ski School offers training programs for advanced skiers who are interested in racing, and many racing events are held at the resort. You can signup for race leagues at the resort, and many league events are planned each season.
Equipment rental is available, and there is a General Store right inside the lodge, where you can purchase gloves, hats, and neck warmers among a variety of other items. You should also visit the technology center to have your ski's tuned or repaired.
You won't go hungry either! Nub's Nob Cafeteria is open for breakfast and lunch, and if you brought your own lunch, you can eat in the 'brown bag' room. Nub's Winter Garden serves grilled burgers when the weather allows. Pintail Peak Warming Hut is located at the top of the Black Lift. Here, you can enjoy amazing views while enjoying home made soups and sandwiches.
Nub's Nob is the place to go if you want to have a great family ski vacation - or if you are already an expert skier interested in racing and skill events. There is plenty to do and see. Consolidators=Cheap Flights
Our Pauper loves to save money using an airfare consolidator. These consolidators contract with airlines to get tickets at cheaper rates than the general public. Because they buy large blocks of tickets the airlines love them.
Though you can get really good deals by knowing how to use consolidators, remember they are not structured for great service. They're playing the quantity game not the hold-your-hand game. If you need personal attention use your travel agent instead.
The best time to use consolidators is during high travel times of the year. Other than these peak travel times consolidators don't really offer much better rates than those offered in the lowest advertised fares. Yet, you can enjoy 20-30% off when you decide to travel during Christmas, for instance.
The other good time to turn to consolidators is if you are traveling on short notice. Unlike the airlines, they don't penalize you for traveling on the spur of the moment.
Always use a credit card with consolidators. Some consolidators can charge high fees if you change your plans and/or cancel your flight. So make sure you understand what the policy on cancellations and refunds is.

Cracow s hot june festivals
There is a quite interesting list of things to do, see and live while you're there. In June there are some interesting events that can be worth a visit to the city of Krakow (Cracow). The Jewish population of Poland was cruelly squashed by the holocaust, however Jewish culture is still rich and flourishing. The Jewish Culture Festival proves it. Every year the Kazimierz district of Krakow, destroyed in World War II, holds an internationally-famous Jewish Culture Festival.
The event first took place in 1988 and today it's arrived to its 18th edition. Each June for more than a week, all kinds of events, from synagogue singing to klezmer music and Hasidic, classical, and Jewish folk music, take place in the Jewish district. The music is the core of the festival, but besides music there are also film screenings, exhibitions, presentations and story telling about a Jewish theme. The visitors can make an experience of Jewish traditional dances, songs, cooking, theatre and even paper-cutting and calligraphy. All initiative are opened and free for everyone. For more information about the Festival visit : jewishfestival.pl/. A couple of weeks later, Krakow celebrates another Festival.
The Wianki - Floating of the Wreaths Festival. The beginning date is 24 June, 2008. The festival traces its roots to a peaceful pagan ritual. Whianki literally means 'wreaths' and it is a traditional midsummer celebration that remembers St John. Polish girls wear wreaths of flowers with a lighted candle in the centre and then throw them into the Vistula River.
This ritual is for predicting when they would be married. If the wreath comes back to shore, the girl will never marry, if it sinks, she will die young and if it flows down the river, she will be married and be happy. By the 19th century this tradition had become a festive event, and it continues today. Apart from the official floating of wreaths, there are musical performances, dignitaries' speeches, fairs and fireworks by the river bank opposite the imposing Royal Wawel Castle. Poland's top pop stars are now joined by international acts to complete a day of celebration. More info at : visitpoland.org.
Also, in terms of accommodation, you will be happy to know that your budget won't be suck up all in a sudden! Krakow offers some of the cosiest and cheapest youth hostels of the Eastern Europe. The Lemon hostel or the Old Walls youth hostel are very nice as like as the Bling Bling Hostel or the cool AQQ hostel, the Free hostel, the Secret Garden, the Moon hostel. They are easily found in internet in some bookers providing online bookings and prices comparison.

New Zealand is for Lovers - of Adventure, That Is: Travel to New Zealand
Although often times in the gigantic shadow of its Australian neighbor, New Zealand is worlds apart from any experience found elsewhere and it is geographically much farther southeast than most people imagine. New Zealand is a former British colony, with fascinating cultural influences due to its location in southern Polynesia. Large swaths of rolling green meadows, churning geysers, creaking glaciers, and never-ending stretches of magical overgrown beaches encourage travelers to make the long haul across oceans to indulge in the disarming natural beauty of New Zealand year after year.
New Zealand was one of the last landmasses to be inhabited, only discovered in 800 AD by Polynesian navigator Kupe. The discovery initiated a steady stream of migration from today's French Polynesia until Dutch Abel Tasman and finally James Cook came across the islands and claimed them for the British Crown, ruled from Australia. If a new heart rate is not what you are looking for, make your leisurely way to Ninety Mile Beach at the very north end of the island; the name is not deceiving and the experience is absolute paradise in the summer months. The Great Barrier Island to the east is a mind blowing underwater experience for most scuba divers and an equally sensational getaway for the sand-bound.

Living On A Cruise Ship Is Catching On
Well, living on a Cruise Ship is catching on.
Quite a few couples are now subscribing to world cruises and it is affecting the Cruise Ship industry.
In 2006 the Holland America Line is experiencing a 20 percent increase in the number of cruises longer than 12 days.
For 2007, the demand for world cruises for Cunard is so great the company is having two world cruises, including the Queen Mary 2's first voyage around the world, an 80-day journey.
Silversea Cruises, a very, very exclusive Cruise Line has just launched a series of voyages of 34 to 123 days and is having its first around-the-world cruise in 2007.
And Crystal Cruises Inc. spokeswoman Mimi Weisband said that they saw a record number of bookings for this year's 106-day world cruise.
Why is this happening?
Nobody likes flying anymore. It is not relaxing, you are stuffed like sardines in a tin can, you have to bring your own lunch, and have to take off your shoes.
Now think about cruising.
You've got your house with you, wherever you go, just like a turtle.
